Accents for Actors - Auditions & Productions

Accents are wonderful things…when done correctly. There’s nothing that destroys an audience’s suspension of disbelief quicker though than a shabby one. Its the actors equivalent of a shaky set or a Starbucks cup in the middle of a period shot (you know the one!). With competition in the industry so strong and self-tapes allowing casting directors to effectively hold auditions globally, its never been more important to nail that accent and leave you feeling confident enough to do your best work.

I offer sessions both in person and online.

You can book a one to one session online or email me to let me know what you need. I offer special discounted rates (for online sessions only) to individual actors who are on Spotlight, a member of Equity or represented by specific agents (Please ask your agent).

I also offer Zoom sessions to U.S. and other international actors wanting to work on RP or any other British accent. See below for package.

Anyone has the potential to learn a new accent, I work with very experienced actors and those for whom dialect work may be relatively new. Everyone learns in different ways and I will tailor the work to your particular style of learning.

Preparing for your session

To make the most use of your session please email the following in advance;

Script or text you are planning to perform/ audition/ record

Character breakdown, including background, era and age if available

Two recordings or videos of your target accent(s) from an original/native source - this is very important, please ask if you need guidance

In addition, if you are learning an accent for a voice reel or Spotlight ask your agent/director in advance what kind of parts they envisage you playing. This will help you get the best results from your session - for example just saying ‘New York’ is fine, but there’s little point spending your hour learning an Upper East side accent if your agent is mainly putting you up for gangsters in the mob!

Voice coaching for actors

As an actor there is always more to discover about your voice and how it works. Individual voice coaching allows you the space to uncover the underlying potential of your voice. Beginning with the breath and the way we think, we will use different techniques to help develop the your true, authentic voice. Exploring depth, resonance and tone, releasing any tension and gently unleashing the power within.

Our voices constantly evolve as we do. Age, health, environment and life changes all have an effect. It doesn’t matter what stage of your career you are at - if you’ve been treading the boards for years or are coming to acting anew - one to one coaching can really help you to overcome any challenges you have been facing and learn to work with your own, unique voice.
